Goodnews Bay Tribal Court Diversion and Healing to Wellness Program

Our Recovery Camp promotes wellness, accountability, and healing grounded in community and culture.

The Ellangcaryaraq Recovery Camp offers a culturally grounded path to sobriety, dignity, and community safety. Built on traditional values and modern best practices, this Tribal Court connected diversion program addresses the root causes of addiction, trauma, and related challenges. Through counseling, cultural teachings, and structured accountability, participants are given the tools to heal, restore balance, and rebuild strong connections to family, community, and culture.

FREE PROGRAM
OPEN TO THE TRIBAL COMMUNITY

This program is completely free of charge and is available to Goodnews Bay Tribal members and to members of other Tribes who are seeking healing and support. Our goal is to ensure that any Alaska Native in need has access to compassionate, culturally grounded recovery.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE

Priority: Nonviolent offenders and Tribal community members referred by the Tribal Court or Traditional Village Council.

Also Open To: Alaska Natives who are not involved in the justice system but want help with addiction recovery, trauma healing, or support services.

Entry requirements: Informed consent, screening, assessment, and a personalized healing plan developed with program staff.

Accessibility: Referrals accepted from justice partners, service providers, families, or self-referral.

CORE SERVICES

Trauma-informed counseling: Individual and group therapy tailored to individual needs.

Healing circles & cultural practice: Elders, language, subsistence, and land-based healing.

Family engagement: Parenting support, reunification planning, and family sessions.

Sober support & peer mentorship: Recovery coaching and community accountability.

Case management: Coordinated access to housing, employment, education, and benefits.

Care coordination: Warm handoffs to regional health partners and aftercare supports.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Stabilization: Safety planning, detox linkage if needed, immediate supports, court orientation.

Treatment: Counseling, healing circles, skill groups, and measurable recovery goals.

Reentry & Aftercare: Transition planning, job and housing support, relapse prevention, and peer networks.

    *Clear expectations and weekly/monthly check-ins.

    *Incentives for progress: privileges, recognition, phase     advancement.

    *Proportionate, fair sanctions for noncompliance, always     preserving due process and participant dignity.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES

Successful completion may result in reduced or suspended sanctions, case dismissal where appropriate, or civil remedies focused on rehabilitation and community reintegration.

Goals: Public safety, accountability, sobriety, family stability, and sustained wellness.

    *Integrates Tribal sovereignty, culture, and community in     treatment.

    *Uses evidence based practices alongside traditional     knowledge.

    *Focuses on root causes: trauma, grief, and disconnection     while restoring responsibility and hope.
