HOUSING DATA

Current Housing: There are 87 housing units, 79 livable single-family homes, 1 duplex housing two families and 1 travel trailer housing one family. 5 single-family homes are uninhabitable.

Housing Challenges: Overcrowding and homes in need of repair remain serious issues.

Future Development: Yute Calistait Tribal Contractors LLC is leading housing improvement projects to address community needs.

Healthcare Access: No doctor, dentists, or nurses reside in the village of Goodnews Bay. A community health aide, trained by the state, provides care with support via radio and tribal health systems.

Partnerships: The Tribe works with the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium and Bristol Bay Area Health Corporation to provide the best care for our residents.

Wellness Services: The Native Village of Goodnews Bay hosts recovery service camps focused on healing, addiction recovery, and cultural wellness.

POVERTY & ECONOMIC WELLBEING


Poverty Rate: ~90% of Tribal Members live below the federal poverty level.

Employment: Roughly 33% of our Tribal Members are employed.

Support Efforts: The Native Village of Goodnews Bay has created both an economic arm and a nonprofit arm to strengthen opportunities. Partnerships with AVCP and Calista Corporation provide assistance with food security, job training, and family support.

Behind each percentage is a family working to overcome barriers. Our Tribe is committed to walking alongside them.


EDUCATION & LANGUAGE


Education Levels: Approximately 15% of Tribal Members are high school graduates; no current college graduates reported; vocational education data is unknown.

Language Preservation: While no formal Central Yup’ik programs currently exist, preserving language remains a Tribal priority.

Future Support: Mumtraq Regional Impact and other Tribal initiatives aim to create scholarships, training, and workforce pathways.






TRANSPORTATION & ACCESSIBILITY


Regional Access: Travel to Bethel, Dillingham, and Anchorage is limited to air and skiff transport, all of which are often disrupted by inclement weather.

Community Needs: Reliable transportation is essential for medical care, elder support, and participation in regional events. The Native Village of Goodnews Bay continues to explore solutions to expand Tribal transportation services.
