The Goodnews Bay Tribal Police Department is committed to safeguarding the community and enforcing the law. Officers serve with integrity and respect, working with Elders, youth, and partners to promote safety in ways that honor our Yup'ik values. When needed, we coordinate with state and federal agencies while upholding Tribal sovereignty. We emphasize prevention, education, and community trust.

The Goodnews Bay Tribal Police Department consists of three dedicated officers who serve with integrity and respect. Their duties include maintaining peace, enforcing tribal laws, and protecting the safety of all Tribal members. In addition to patrol and emergency response, the officers work closely with community leaders, elders, and youth to promote safety in ways that honor Yup’ik values. When needed, they coordinate with state and federal agencies while upholding the sovereignty of the Tribe.  Committed to both justice and compassion, the Tribal Police emphasize prevention, education, and community trust in their service.

The Tribal Police Officers act as Customs Officers to ensure compliance with Tribal regulations governing the transport of goods, equipment, and supplies into Goodnews Bay, including enforcement of tribal prohibitions on illegal drugs and alcohol at points of entry. 

The Tribal Police Officers also act as Border Protection. In this role they monitor access into and out of Goodnews Bay,  enforcing security protocols, safeguarding community boundaries, and deterring unlawful activity.

The River Rangers play a vital role in monitoring and protecting Goodnews Bay’s rivers and waterways. Duties include patrolling river areas, ensuring safe travel, monitoring hunting, fishing and water sport activities for compliance with Tribal law, and protecting aquatic resources vital to the community’s subsistence based lifestyle and economy.
